Here's the most incredible thing about space.

There are BILLIONS of stars in our galaxy.

Multiply that with MILLIONS (and potentially BILLIONS) of galaxies.

Consider that, for the most part, each of these stars is capable of maintaining life if a planet is within the 'habitable' zone.

Life - no, not just life - INTELLIGENT life has to be an inevitability within the universe. Just purely based off of probability. We would be ignorant to believe that it doesn't exist - or that it only may exist in microbial forms.

The universe is ancient, our race an infant.

To live at the time of the exploration of the cosmos, to attempt to understand the origins of the universe and all contained within - this is awe inspiring. Too seldom to people gaze at the stars and wonder, too seldom do people not realize the vastness - the pure beauty - of the universe.

We are truly at the beginning of our journey in knowledge and exploration. I can only anticipate what lays around the corner, what mysteries, intrigues and adventures await us.

A little rock floating through space, how subtle we are in the grand scheme - how minute.

We are on the first step of the great pyramid of discovery.

If the Universe is infinite, then yes, intelligence is inevitable. And we are actually proof that it is inevitable even if the universe is finite. We just need to be careful to make the HUGE jump between the incredibly likely presence of life and the presence of common intelligence.

Really great information here. I beg each of you to get behind people like Jason Silva and PRI to support the changing paradigm of our technological forefront. We need these people to make this shift to Space easier and available to the public at the same time. Emulate this reasoning within ourselves, if we all sought to create "awe" in not only our choices, but also in our perceptions, we might come to revere life for what it is; the evolutionary collective consciousness of a planet. Our planet. What would it be like if a dog could talk? Consider what we sound like as a planet, and the vibrational epicenter of our theta-bogged brains emanating out into the ether of space with all our electromagnetic and radio frequency waves pinging across the stars. Brilliant collection of thought, motion, light, and intention! I loving the feeling of being awe struck. Happens to me whenever I go free-diving. I feel insignificant as an individual yet totally integrated and connected with the universe as an important cog of the machine of life for nothing less then to just be there to observe. And then life looks different. Upgrade!

What I really liked about this video was the link between our ability to experience awe, and the technology we have developed to make this possible. We can be awestruck at on level by the scale of the Grand Canyon, but the discoveries of the HST are something we, mankind have achieved. I sincerely hope we are on a curve.

A wonderful way of saying it.

Awe, contemplation, meditation as parts of the concept that "the function is creating the organ" or, in this case, is unlocking it. I always thought that evil people cannot be really intelligent nor wise. They may be smart now and then but their lack of perspective, their incapacity to awe or to meditate is transforming them in "metabolic mechanisms". The great thing is that one evil person like that, once struck by awe becomes a good and a wise individual. And this process is irreversible. It's almost religious... "Truth and beauty."

A very good message from people in Planetary Resources - in a mercantile world, things are to be approached not only for material profit but also for evolution and spirit in a poetic and awe-some way.

More awe striking is the human capability to imagine what's beyond he's reach and make it happen. Unfortunately, it is so rarely the same person doing both things. Future engineers like me, we need fantasy to fuel our different kind of creativity. This kinda validates the power of awe strikingness in Jason's video of Advantages, while Radical Openness could help with finally shedding some light on some of the toughest ethical questions we've been hiding from so far. So we could hopefully start preparing for a level of open mindedness, needed for our future First contacts.

I had never thought about this in the context of Jason's video, but it is inspiring. In the vast history of this planet, only one species has evolved intelligence, and that species also has the ability to be awestruck by the potential of our curiosity. As far as we know, we're the only species that thinks long-term, and that cannot be an evolutionary weakness. Great stuff.

This is one of the main reasons I feel we need to explore and settle space. Once more humans are exposed to space and actually walk on the surface of another celestial body, just standing there and being in that moment will start an evolutionary paradigm shift that will propel mankind into the future.
